Artwork Analysis:
Both images are from the Museum of Art at Monserrat.
Image One– I was first struck by the sheer size of the first painting. It was larger than almost any other at the museum. I then noticed the vivid shades used by the artist. Even the cooler parts of the painting have a warmth, likely because of the continued use of yellows and pinks, even within the shadows. The division between light and darkness is fascinating, and perhaps it is worth noting that if the painter was at the scene, they themselves would be standing within the shadowed part of the image. All in all, the painting's formal properties of color and balance attract me to the image.
Image Two– I enjoyed viewing the second painting enough to snap a quick picture of it as well. I did so, not just because I enjoyed its formal properties, but because of the emotions it evoked within me. My best friend's last name is Peach, and she has on her wall an artwork extremely similar to this painting. So I took the photo because of its associations with her! I knew she would enjoy it. The image's colors are also beautiful to me. Just like in the first image, I love how the mix of warm and cool tones work together to create a serene feeling.
